Breaking: Disneyland Caves To Public Pressure And Will Remove Merchandise From Main Street Cinema
Last Friday, the Main Street Cinema at Disneyland had been turned into a store. Well, it now appears the pop-up shop won’t even last a week, thanks to resounding guests backlash across both coasts!
Disneyland officials have said that they had no intention of removing the films from original Main Street Cinema, but was conducting a test using merchandise as an incentive to drive foot traffic to an original 1955 opening day attraction. But, their intention instead caused outrage of so many fans over the weekend, after merchandise racks had appeared in the theater last friday. Many upset fans took to social media to protest the changes to Main Street Cinema.
You may recall that the Walt Disney World’s Main Street Cinema was converted into a full-time souvenir shop in 1998 that no longer shows Mickey Mouse animated short films which left guests shaken over what might be happening to the original 1955 Cinema.
The classic Disneyland attraction pays tribute to the origins of the Disney film studio and the cartoons that made Disneyland possible.
The landmark “Steamboat Willie” is the Main Street Cinema’s marquee film. The 1928 short that made Mickey Mouse a star was directed and voiced by Walt Disney himself.
Further testing is still in the works for this treasured original, so it’ll be interesting, yet somewhat nerve-racking, to see what could potentially come next. Whatever happens, we hope all Disney fans and guests alike will be just as vocal about any changes they feel may tarnish historical elements and guest experience within the park.
