Hong Kong Disneyland To Reopen Soon!

Hong Kong Disneyland has confirmed that it will reopening shortly, along with another prominent Hong Kong theme park: Ocean Park, after much speculation on which Disney theme park will follow the footsteps of Shanghai Disneyland.

The confirmation of the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland follows the reports from last month that the Disney Park was testing a soft reopening for cast members only, hinting that Hong Kong Disneyland would be soon following Shanghai Disneyland in finally reopening to the public.

So, When is Hong Kong Disneyland reopening? Hong Kong Disneyland has not released an exact date, however, Ocean Park is opening this Saturday June 13th and both Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park are owned by the government, suggesting that Hong Kong Disneyland won’t be far behind that opening.

Just before the COVID-19 Pandemic, Ocean Park was almost in bankruptcy. Leo Kung Lin-cheng, Chairman of Park’s Board of Directors had the following to say about the reopening of the Disneyland Resort as well as Ocean Park:

‘We want to reboot the economy in the second half of this year through new initiatives in tourism, external trade and trade insurance services … We are confident we will ride out the economic doldrums.’

Hong Kong Disneyland also lost about $13.5 million in September 2019, before the Covid -19 pandemic which resulted in it’s closure. And thanks to the social unrest in Hong Kong that hasn’t helped as well. So, Hong Kong Disneyland really does need to be getting back normal , with some new health and safety measures.  

So, while there is no official reopening date for Hong Kong Disneyland, at least there is a glimmer of hope that they will be opening soon.
