Dorian Effects Felt In Florida: Disney Closing Early, Evacuations Underway & Flights Cancelled
Hurricane Dorian will finally begin its long-awaited march up the Southeast coast today after delivering one last punishing blow over the storm-fatigued northwest Bahamas. Now that Hurricane Dorian is moving again, Florida is wrapping up preparations today for the wind and storm surges that are expected even if the storm stays offshore.
Dorian’s wind intensity has backed off from Sunday’s peak, currently a Category 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds, thank goodness they’ve gone down significantly after the poor Bahama’s were hit with 185 mph winds! Regardless of its intensity and track, Dorian will have significant, damaging impact from Florida’s Atlantic coast to parts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and possible southeast Virginia this week.
Flooding and major erosion has already been reported in Palm Beach County, Flagler and Volusia Counties confirmed by the National Weather Service office in Jacksonville.
Today, Walt Disney World will close it’s Central Florida parks early, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom will close at 2 pm. The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon, Mininature Golf Courses and Disney Springs will close at 3 pm. The ESPN Wide World of Sports and Blizzard Beach will be closed and an After-Hours event at Animal Kingdom is cancelled.
Other central Florida sites will not open Tuesday which include: SeaWorld Orlando and Legoland Florida. And Kennedy Space Center visitor complex said it would be closed Tuesday and Wednesday as they are under hurricane warning.
Orlando airport officials urged travelers to get flight updates from their airlines and to arrange for places to stay, adding in capital letters “ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS NOT A SHELTER.”
Stay safe everyone, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you. Keep the people who are still in the Bahama’s in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for following along with us, we appreciate it. See ya real soon- Shauna
