Massive Epcot Changes Include: Spaceship Earth Overhaul!
During this years D23 Expo, we learned that Epcot is going to be undergoing a massive overhaul of the entire park, with new four distinct neighborhoods and a newly designed experience for Spaceship Earth!
World Showcase is staying the same in Epcot the way that it is currently organized and will continue to celebrate the different cultures, cuisines, architecture and traditions of those individual countries.
All of the area that Future World currently occupies is getting completed revamped, and in its place are 3 new neighborhoods or areas. Each of the 4 areas will celebrate one of the unique aspects that makes Epcot unique and special and works off the current pavilions located there. The three new neighborhoods are: World Nature, World Discovery and World Celebration.
World Discovery is the area that is currently known as “Future World East” and includes the pavilions: Mission: SPACE, Test Track, and two pavillion’s being revamped Play pavilion and the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction.
The Mission: SPACE pavilion is also getting that space restaurant, called Space 220.
World Celebration is getting the biggest changes in Epcot and is going to look completely different than it does now.
First of all we already knew about the Fountains of Nations, Starbucks, Club Cool and Innoventions West getting demolished, and with those changes it will give World Celebration a totally new look and feel.
Instead of just concrete that covers it right now, World Celebration will turn into a garden-like park, filled with plants, flowers, trees, fountains and more.
A New pavilion in the back of World Celebration heading towards World Showcase will rise into the skyliner and serve as home base for the Epcot festivals throughout the year. This structure will have three levels, hold new experiences and have a beautiful top level which will provide incredible views of the new “Disney HarmonioUS” nighttime spectacular.
Spaceship Earth is getting a renovation and completely changing the look and feel of the ride.
Located in the new World Celebration Neighborhood, the park’s icon, Spaceship Earth interior will be revamped.
The new Spaceship Earth experience will shift focus from sharing the history of human communication to focusing on a core Disney element: Storytelling. A new magical light beam called a “Story light” will come to life and guide guests through each show scene. while select classic scenes from the attraction are set to stay put, a new guide and new narration will be added.
This new narration will provide a greater insight into the human experience and storytelling that connects guests from all over the world. Enhanced show scenes with new technological effects will capture the universal nature of the human experience and bring about something relatable and interesting for the whole family.
During the announcements today at the panel, Bob Chapek explained that the importance of Spaceship Earth to the Park, “37 years as an icon of Epcot, Walt Disney World and The Walt Disney Company, and we are excited to evolve this unique attraction in a way that will appeal to the variety of guests who visit Walt Disney World.”
World Nature is what’s currently known as Future World West and encompasses The Seas, Living with the Land, and the Imagination pavilion.
This area will be home to the new Journey of Water, the Moana-inspired attraction which unites families on a lush exploration trail to play with living magical water. In the spirit of Epcot it also teaches young and old alike the importance of our natural water.
This area is also where you’ll find the new film coming to The Land pavilion, “Awesome Planet,”which is debuting in January 2020.
We still didn’t learn anything about Disney’s plans for the Imagination! pavilion, so we’ll have to keep our eyes open on that!
This is a brief summary of what we know about the 4 new neighborhoods coming to Epcot and how its landscape is changing forever from now on.
