“Star Wars” Amputee Fan Receives New R2-D2 Prosthetic Arm And Call From Mark Hamill

Bella Tadlock is a huge Star Wars fan who was trying to raise money for a new bionic prosthetic arm. This new bionic prosthetic arm is created by the company Open Bionics in Bristol, the arm costs a whopping $14,000, but if Bella is successful, she would be the first person in the United States to recieve the R2-D2 styled advance multi-grip arm.

Bella Tadlock launched an online fundraiser, in which Mark Hamill found it. The famous Star Wars star decided to help his fan out and took to twitter, sharing Bella’s fundraiser with his 3.6 million followers.

Both Hamill and Bella’s efforts paid off and she is now the first person in the United States to be rocking an Open Bionics’ R2-D2 “Bionic Hero Arm.”The sweet 11 year old Bella Tadlock’s day keeps getting better, because after she received her new arm, Mark Hamill gave her a Skype call to see for himself this amazing state of the art R2-D2 bionic arm.

Mark Hamill exclaimed –

“That is so fantastic. I’m so happy that you were able to have this happen for you.”

The call was set up by Open Bionics themselves who were rooting for Bell throughout her journey to getting this state of the art piece of equipment. But this isn’t the first time Open Bionics created this special moment.

Almost a year ago, 11 year old Cameron Miller received his Hero Arm, but he chose a BB-8 theme. Once again, sweet famous star Mark Hamill got involved.

It can only be fitting that Luke Skywalker, get involved with these young Star Wars fans journey’s in getting their Star Wars-themed prosthetic arms. If you remember, Darth Vader cut off Luke Skywalkers arm in the Empire Strikes Back movie, and he was an amputee himself.
